Let’s all fully #EmbraceEquity on International Women’s Day

Happy International Women’s Day!

Today, we join people all around the UK and the world in celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

The International Women’s Day theme for this year is #EmbraceEquity: the aim is to get the world talking about why equal opportunities aren’t enough. People start from different places, so true inclusion and belonging require equitable action.

At OneSearch, we are proud to support International Women’s Day and take action to promote gender equity in our workplace and beyond. We believe that when we empower women, we empower everyone, and we are committed to creating a more inclusive and equitable world for all.

We wanted to share the thoughts of our staff on challenges faced, and advice they have for other women starting their careers.

In my opinion, the biggest challenge facing women today is the narrative that they can have it all… Yes, only if you want to run yourself ragged! It isn’t possible for any woman to contribute fully to family life, have a stellar career and make regular, quality time for friends and family. We cannot dedicate time to personal growth, health and wellbeing and maintain glittering content for our 10,000 Instagram followers. This expectation is harmful for us all. We need to focus on what makes us happy and balance and juggle that as best we can… and accept sometimes we need to compromise. Stop worrying about what we are being conditioned into thinking is “normal” and give ourselves our break.

– Elizabeth Jarvis, Managing Director, OneSearch

I’m constantly inspired by all the women in my life: friends, family and work are all an inspiration – they have your back and allow you to be who you are. My advice to any young woman starting her career would be: Do not sweat the small stuff and use your voice and make sure you are heard and understood. The biggest challenge facing women today is women being allowed to be women and to say they are women.
